The Whitehall Hotel, CHICAGO, IL
EMCOR Services Team Mechanical (TMI) offers high-quality design/build
construction, installation, maintenance, and various other services for a full line of
mechanical and electrical systems. Because of TMI’s advanced technological applications and flexibility to adjust to client’s needs, The Whitehall Hotel selected them to perform the mechanical and electrical installations to their renovated facility.
The Whitehall Hotel prides itself in living up to its reputation as one of the great
luxury hotels in the United States by providing world-class service to its guests. The Whitehall wanted to ensure that their hotel would operate at peak efficiency, to provide a comfortable, safe environment for all guests and staff. The installations implemented by Team Mechanical met the client’s standards with a design/build project that offers a long service life with low energy consumption.
EMCOR Services Team Mechanical’s scope of work included completing a design/build project for the renovation of the guest room HVAC system. TMI designed a new penthouse mechanical room and installed two closed circuit BAC cooling towers on the roof of the 23 story hotel. A new piping system including loops in interstitial space, pumps, and Hydronic accessories were also installed in the penthouse mechanical room. In the 221 guest rooms, TMI demolished the existing P-Tac units and all associated stream and condensate risers, installed 13 sets of risers from interstitial space to each guest room, and furnished and installed water source heat pumps to each room as well. TMI designed and installed a complete automation and controls system for the hotel along with commissioning of all equipment. The project also included the installation of the complete electrical power service, where TMI partnered with Galaxy Electric for the power wiring. This project will vastly increase the dependability of the mechanical systems, minimizing future system repairs, and will increase guest comfort at the hotel. Other Information: Gibson Electric & Technology Solutions, a large electrical
contractor in the Chicago land market and a subsidiary of EMCOR, was awarded the contract of completing the IT communication upgrade in the hotel.
Constructed in 1928, The Whitehall Hotel was originally built as an apartment building and was known as one of Chicago’s first luxury high-rise complexes where the city’s elite resided. Nearly 46 years later, it was converted into a world-class hotel. The Whitehall under went a $6 million dollar renovation plan to all guest rooms and hallways in 2006. The hotel, currently housing 221 guest rooms, encompasses the same European charm as it did in the 1920’s with a twist of modernism. The Whitehall Hotel was recognized by Fortune Magazine as “one of the eight great small hotels in the United States.”
